An all-American classic. If you’re looking for a little something sweet, this seasonal apple crisp takes the cake on any dessert you could put out at a dinner or party this fall. Made from Muzzarelli apples, freshness is the first ingredient in this all-American favorite. Let’s get baking!
What You’ll Need:
• 8 Muzzarelli apples, peeled and diced
• 1 cup of flour
• ¼ cup of water
• 1 ½ cups of uncooked oatmeal
• ¾ cup of brown sugar
• ½ cup of butter or margarine
• 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
• 1 quart of vanilla ice cream or low-fat frozen yogurt (optional)
What You’ll Need to Do:
First thing’s first: preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
After peeling the skins from your Muzzarelli apples, carefully slice them into large chunks and arrange in an 8-inch baking dish with ¼ cup of water. In a separate bowl, incorporate flour, oatmeal, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Pour melted butter or margarine into the mixture, and stir until wet and fully blended.
Using the backside of your spoon, evenly spread mixture over the apples in your baking dish. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes, and allow to cool before serving.
P.S. Don’t count on leftovers! This dish serves eight but could disappear in a party of two. Enjoy!
